Key Forehand Position - 5.0

When I first met Kent, he told me he played Division II college tennis. He said his serve and his forehand were his big weapons. I think you can see here one reason why his forehand is such a weapon. His racket is parallel to the ground here (not tilted below his hand). The butt cap of his racket points at the net. And the racket is just a few inches below the flight path of the ball.

At this stage of the forehand, Kent looks exactly like Robby Ginepri, who has one of the biggest forehands in the world.

I encourage you to stand to the side of a mirror and get into this exact position. With your hand near your right hip, make sure your racket is parallel to the ground and the butt cap of the racket points straight ahead. If you can hit this key position, you will be well on your way to hitting a tremendous forehand.

A great way to see how the pros line the racket up with the incoming ball is to use the stroke comparison tool I just created. Click here to compare top forehands from a side angle. Pause the videos when the player's hitting hand is by their right hip.
